Opening this July, the city restaurant will offer diners a relaxed bistro-style experience with Peruvian comfort food.

Virgilio Martínez, the talented chef behind the acclaimed Central restaurant in Lima, Peru will be opening Ichu Peru, a brand new restaurant in Hong Kong this July.

His first venture in Asia, the new eatery will offer diners a relaxed bistro-style experience with Peruvian comfort food. The Joyce Wang-designed restaurant will have 165 covers in total, with an outdoor terrace and stylish bar area too. Martinez has relocated three of his trusted team to Hong Kong for the new site, including chef Sang Jeong.

The restaurant, named after a plant found in the Peruvian Andes that grows only in extreme conditions, will offer a reflection of both Martinez’s in-depth knowledge of indigenous ingredients and passion for new challenges.

Martinez commented: “Ichu will present much-loved Peruvian dishes in a comfortable, welcoming, casual environment. We want guests to feel as though they have been to Peru and experienced comfort food. [It] will celebrate Peru’s no-fuss dining culture with a menu that showcases traditional local ingredients and cooking techniques.”

His other restaurant Central, which will close in June before being relocated to a new site in Lima, currently sits at an impressive number five on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
