With the 85th Academy Awards approaching, The Beverly Hills Hotel, one of Dorchester Collection, has created an Oscar Cocktail Menu inspired by this year’s “Best Picture” nominations. These cocktails will be available during the lead-up to Oscar night on Sunday 24 February 2013, at the internationally renowned Polo Lounge and Bar Nineteen 12.
The beverage team has created nine unique cocktails in celebration of the world’s most glamorous evening – and we’ve got recipes for two of them for you to recreate at home.
Amour-“Till Death Do Us Part”
The film Amour is a powerful story about an elderly married couple’s enduring love, with thespectre of death looming at their side. This cocktail (pictured on the right) – with its white mist and Viola flowers – symbolises perfectly the delicate fragility of life, whilst celebrating its beauty.
2 oz Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc.
1 oz White Cranberry
1 oz Belvedere Black Raspberry Vodka
½ oz Elderflower Syrup
½ oz Parfait Amour
½ oz Lime Juice
Fill with club soda
Viola Edible Flowers
Add Sauvignon Blanc, White Cranberry Juice, Belvedere Black Raspberry Vodka, Elderflower Syrup and Lime Juice to a white wine glass with ice and stir to combine. Fill with club soda. Float the parfait amour atop the drink and garnish with edible flowers.
Django Unchained “Gunsmoke”
I couldn’t think of a more appropriate addition to a cocktail which epitomises one of Quentin Tarantino’s infamously gory films than a good glug of ruby red mix and a thick, sharp slice of a Blood Orange…
2 oz Deleon Diamante Tequila
2 oz Blood Orange/Simple Syrup mix
1 oz Lime Juice
Black Lava Salt rimmed old fashioned glass
Blood Orange Wheel
Mist the inside of a black lava salt rimmed old fashioned glass with Mezcal and add fresh ice. In a mixing glass and all other ingredients and shake well. Strain into the lava salt rimmed old fashioned glass with fresh ice and garnish with a blood orange wheel.
