After initially meetingin Portugal at Villa Joya, Algarve, during theInternational Gourmet Festivalin 2012, the twochefs instantly became friends. Usually known for his fine cuisine atVälimäkiand being former owner and chef of two-Michelin starredChez Dominique, located in Helsinki, Finland, HansVälimäki will now be travelling to New York to work in tandem with Matt Lambert to create a gastronomic feast, on Wednesday 20th January.
WithLambert’s cuisine drawinginspiration from his Kiwi upbringing, this has steadily beenmixed with his experience of working in some of New York City’s best kitchens and passion for locally sourced produce. Under his leadership, The Musket Room received a highly coveted Michelin Star, just four months after opening.
Alongside thisAntipodean influence,Finnish-born Hans Välimäki has defied all stigmas tied to Nordic Cuisine by experimenting with Gallic tones,gaininghim two Michelin stars and a ranking of #21 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List for 2009. Together their Musket Room dinner will combine these two extraordinary cusines resulting inan exclusive8-course menu of alternating dishes to present their respective New Zealand and Finnish-inspired cuisines.
This fantastic event will be a one-offchance to experience not only Lambert’s translation of the New Zealand cooking into the American surroundings, but to also see how he works with a kitchen defined by the Nordic Välimäki, whose style is known to be experimental French-Nordic.
