Once again, the world’s best chefs will be congregating under the Kursaal centre’s roof, for the 16th San Sebastian Gastronomika‐Euskadi Basque Country congress. FOUR gives you the low down on the whos, wheres and whats..

From 5 to 8 October, Italy will be the guest country at San Sebastian Gastronomika‐Euskadi Basque Country. As in previous editions, the event will also feature leading chefs from Spain and around the world, but this year with focus on those from Italy.

The event – divided into four culinary sections (Alta, OFF, Popular and Market) – will be chaired by chefs Hilario Arbelaitz, Martn Berasategui, Karlos Arguiñano, Juan Mari Arzak, Andoni Luis Aduriz and Pedro Subijana, as well as Roser Torras of Group Gsr as Congress director. The theme, specifically will be focused on “Italy: North vs South”, exploring Italy’s diverse cuisines, multiple cultures and sensibilities.

Popular

Taking place on the first day of the Congress, Popular will be open to the general public, with workshops, presentations and activities open to all.

Alta | Haute Cuisine

Leading international chefs will showcase their latest creations on stage, with presentations and live cooking. Guests will have the chance to try the delights without leaving their seats!

Topping the list of Spanish chefs is Joan Roca. Other top names include carme Ruscalleda, Quique Dacosta, Francis Paniego, Paco Pérez, Ramón Freixa, Marcos Morán andÁngel León.

The list of Italian chefs will include 30 Michelin stars from Carlo Cracco, Massimiliano Alajmo, Gennaro Esposito, Massimo Bottura, Davide Scabin, Norbert Niederkofler, Arcangelo Dandini, Enzo Coccia, Enzo Piccirillo, Andrea Berton, Matías Perdomo, Lorenzo Cogo, Nino di Costanzo, Moreno Cedroni, Viviana Varese, Niko Romito, Salvatore Tassa, Cinque Raimondo, Mauro Uliassi and Pino Cuttaia.

OFF| Wine, Floor Management, Cocktails and Restauranting

Bringing specialists together, OFF will include presentations, workshops, seminars, tastings and other activities. With it’s own technical committee of leading sommeliers Ferran Centelles, Cristina Alcalá and Josep Roca, and Roser Torras, there will be a day dedicated to tastings, presentations and demonstrations named The Wine Sessions. For a bit of fun, this will include Wine & Win, a head-to-head blind tasting contest.
