With the award ceremony that celebrates Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants only a few days away, FOUR looks at the highlights from 2015 ahead of this year’s event on Monday 26 September.
Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015 Highlights

Last years results were as fantastic as ever with husband-and-wife team, Virgilio Martínez and Pía Leon, stayingat the top spot of No.1 best Latin American restaurant with their restaurantCentralin Lima,for the second year running.Apart from a little place swapping, Lima was closely followed by firm favourites ofBoragóin Santiago, Chile,Astrid y Gastónin Lima, Peru,D.O.M. in São Paulo, Brazil, andMaidoin Lima, Peru.

Even though Peru still retains its spotlight in the culinary world, Mexico City stayed strong, maintaining three restaurants among the top 10 with Jorge Vallejo’sQuintonilrising to fifth place, Enrique Olvera’sPujolat No.9, and chefs Mikel Alonso, Gerard Bellver, and Bruno Oteizafell’s restaurantBikobeing placed at No.10 on this year’s list.

The ceremony also revealed some fantastic new entrants into the top 50 included;Osso Carnicería y Salumeriain Lima, Peru,Maximo Bistrotin Mexico City,Andrés Carne de Res Chiain Columbia,Restóin Buenos Aires, Argentina, andNicos, andDulce Patria, both in Mexico City.

Some disappointments were also encountered, with restaurants such as Mexico City’sMeroToro, and Mendoza’sFrancis Mallmann 1884, failing to make it into the top 50 rankings.

Other prestigious awards of the evening includedEnrique Olveraof Pujol in Mexico City and Cosme in New York City receiving The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award. This year’s Chefs’ Choice Award went to Chilean chefRodolfo Guzmánfor his restaurant Boragó, Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef Award went toAstrid GutscheofAstrid y Gastón in Lima, whilst No.14 winner Brazilian chef,Roberta Sudbrack, was also crowned Latin America’s best female chef.
