After Chef Achatz announced plans last year about the future path of Alinea, relocating and pop-ups were hinted at being in the pipeline, but now it seems that the plans are official and the award-winning restaurant will be heading to the Spanish capital.

The scheduled move for the five-week gourmet pop-up will take place in January 2016, immediately after the flagship venue shuts its doors for the season.

It has been suggested that the whole restaurant crew will accompany Grant on the Alinea tour, as they follow the growing trend of mobile restaurants. The planned Alinea pop-up is just one of many we have seen over recent years, including one of Achatz’s own where he swapped kitchens with No.5 World’s Best Restaurant, Eleven Madison Park in 2011.

The idea of escaping the confines of a fixed residency and embark upon a more nomadic path, is seemingly the next step in the evolution of the World’s top restaurants and is something that Achatz’s has continually championed over the

The break from the routine of the flagship restaurants will no doubt allow for important work and refurbishments to take place, whilst the gourmet food can continue to be sampled by the foodie elite in other locations around the world. Time spent learning from their temporary homes will no doubt only lead to bigger and better things upon their return.
