FOUR asks Lauren Wyllie, Founder of Delicious London and Delicious Barcelona, about how she would spend 24hrs in the gastronomic mecca that is Barcelona…An ideal European city for culinary adventures and delicious events!

At this time of year when we are planning many VIP events around the Mobile World Congress (in February next year), I travel between the Delicious London and Delicious Barcelona offices at least bi-monthly, so I like to time my flights to give me maximum opportunity for culinary explorations and trend hunting, often combining discoveries with my client meetings and site visits.

Breakfast
If I catch an early morning flight, then I like to pick somewhere comfortable with great coffee to start the day, often a new design hotel, where I can caffeinate myself while checking out the hotel as a potential new venue for our books. At present The Cotton House Hotel is a favourite and the coffee is served so beautifully. The styleis colonial chic and the ‘Spanish Brunch’, is adored by the style conscious foodies in the city and tourists alike.

Lunch
For lunch, I like to optimize my time and invite a client to join me and explore a newly opened hotspot that has grabbed my attention. Sitting at the counter at the newly opened Entrepans Diaz is perfect for a quick and quality lunch full of European character. Expect excellent quality sandwiches and lights bites, ideally washed down with a good house wine or beer. Sit at the counter and enjoy the vintage style décor and service by veteran waiters. The management has a rather delightful policy to employ only the best of Barcelona’s servers who are 50 years and older.

Post work drinks and bites
Snag a table outside and sip on the drink on every cool Catalan’s lips – Vermut at the glorious Vermuteria Bodega 1900 from the celebrated chef,Albert Adria. This is a great pit stop for an aperitif;to whet one’s appetite before dinner. This bodega offers an exciting array of tapas; the coquettes are always worth your time here and the olives offer an exciting sensation.

Dinner and wines
Book, or expect to queue a little. Grab a table or sit at the bar, either will do to enjoy the show at Bar Brutal. The team is visibly passionate about the impressive natural and biodynamic wineselection. The great quality Mediterranean eats and the people-watching is not bad either. This is an excellent destination for an evening of feasting with friends.

Weekends in Barcelona offer a whole different vibe, but that might be best described over 48 hrs!
