From sky-high views to lavish interiors, discover a stay at one of Tokyo’s most sublime hotels.

1 Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo
Located in the very heart of Nihonbashi, Tokyo’s historical city centre turned thriving business district, this sleek hotel has prime location. It offers an ultimate fusion of contemporary-meets-traditional. With a Japanese design inspired by the concept of a “living tree” this skyscraper-like hotel offers everything from extraordinary views to a must-visit spa.

Expect helpful and conscientious staff, with a particularly creative concierge service. The 178 rooms offer Japanese nature-inspired designs, with beautiful leaf-motif fabrics created by the textile designer Reiko Sudo. Whilst the rooms are stunning, it’s their views that steal the show – gaze across the city and drink in the skyline.

When it comes to food, there’s a handful of Michelin-starred restaurants to eat your way through. Feast on fine French dining in Signature, enjoy fresh fish in Sushi Sora, bite into nibbles at Tapas Molecular Bar and plenty more. Just make sure you pack your appetite in your suitcase!

2 Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi
For something sleek and stylish, book a room at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi. Cosy corners, drool-worthy interiors and and intimate alcoves galore – you’ll feel like you’re staying in a luxury members’ club rather than a five-star hotel.

Centrally located, the design here juxtaposes modern luxury with comfortable, intimate interiors. Find gleaming lights, abstract art, dark wood and huge windows showcasing the outside city.

This hotel offers 57 spacious rooms (plus nine suites) filled with contemporary touches. Bathrooms are as luxurious as the rooms – complete with stylish Etro toiletries and techno details.

When peckish, head to the hotel’s seventh floor for a meal at Motif, a newly-revamped restaurant. Dining here is elegant but friendly, whist the  Social Salon is perfect for French food lovers with seasonal farm-to-table Japanese ingredients. For something more relaxed, pull up a pew at the Living Room for sumptuous wagyu beef burgers.

3 The Capitol Hotel
If you love hotels with history, make a reservation at the Capitol Hotel – an archaic building that was knocked down and rebuilt entirely before reopening in 2010 in a brand new gleaming tower. Japanese aesthetics can be found throughout, creating a peaceful space despite its central location. Design fans can enjoy sliding wooden screens, paper lanterns and beautiful calligraphic artwork at the check-in lobby.

Not only gorgeous, it’s vast – there’s 251 rooms to choose from that create the feel of a traditional Japanese home with panelled walls, light wood and sliding screen doors.

If dining in, Suiren, a modern Japanese restaurant offers everything from teppanyaki and sushi to classic banquet-style kaiseki meals. There’s also Origami, a spacious light-filled all-day dining restaurant and the Capitol Bar for sake nightcaps galore.

Large, luxurious and grand throughout – this hotel boasts 14 restaurants, three bars, a whopping 27 banquet rooms and even two shopping malls. Even the Queen herself has paid a visit.

The rooms are large but not overly lavish – which make them perfect for those seeking somewhere comfortable after a long day exploring the city. If it’s atmosphere you’re after, the New York Grill on the 52nd-floor is one of the most fabulous spots in the city with live jazz and ultra-impressive artwork. If that’s not enough to impress, the 1,600 bottle wine cellar should do the trick.
