A luxury inn by the sea, The Wauwinet, celebrates its third decade of operation with a multi-million dollar restoration.

Located on the northeast shores of Nantucket with boundless views of the Atlantic Ocean, The Wauwinet is the only Relais & Châteaux hotel on the island. Renowned worldwide for its superlative service, exceptional cuisine and luxe accommodation offerings, both guests from the US and abroad flock to this stunning seaside refuge.

Originally opened in 1875 as one of the island’s first hotels, The Wauwinet as guests know and love it today officially became part of Nantucket Island Resorts in 1988.  It is one of the most cherished properties on the island, providing a serene and romantic backdrop for weekend getaways, weddings and other milestone events.

From scenic sunsets to a plethora of outdoor activities, including surfcasting, bike tours and unlimited access to the beach and Nantucket Bay, guests of The Wauwinet are treated to the plenty of joys the island has to offer. Now, with a new look, the hotel is as attractive as ever, and the hotel’s design team has taken the extra mile to ensure that even with its new look, the hotel still feels like a home away from home.

Gauthier Stacy was the firm commissioned by The Wauwinet to redesign its interiors for its renovation ahead of its 30th birthday. Known for its spectacular design of a handful of Nantucket properties, including the Great Harbor Yacht Club and local favorite restaurant, Cru, Gauthier Stacy was the perfect fit to bring the hotel’s restoration to life.

Under Gauthier Stacy’s direction, each of the Wauwinet’s guestrooms has been completely reimagined from floor to ceiling. New flooring and carpets as well as a fresh palette of light, inviting tones to replace the original wallpaper, are some of the alterations that the rooms have undergone.  The bathrooms also feature a completely new look, with marble floor tiles laid in a herringbone pattern and glass-enclosed walk-in showers. Waterworks fixtures have also been installed in all the bathrooms.

In terms of the furniture in the guestrooms, The Wauwinet’s already much-loved beds have been updated with modern bed frames and are topped with custom Pratesi by Rivolta linens.  New plush armchairs, chaise longues and other furnishings add to the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the rooms.

An extensive collection of original oil paintings and other artwork hand-selected by the hotel’s owners are also displayed throughout the property, complementing the picturesque Nantucket Bay views, and highlighting the island’s natural and nautical landscape.

To celebrate the renovations, The Wauwinet is offering a special opening rate starting from $225 per night (currently approx. £170)
