“I want to create that personal hotel feeling at home.”
From Antwerp to the Caribbean, Pieter Æbele Elzenga, the creative force behind Æbele Interiors, is leaving his mark on the world of luxury interiors. What began as a one-man design studio six years ago has evolved into an international design brand with outposts in Mallorca and Dubai, and a portfolio that spans the globe—from elegant city apartments to an oceanfront mansion in Antigua.
We sat down with the ever-stylish and soft-spoken designer to talk about his passion for sensory living, the soul of a home, and why every space deserves a touch of five-star hotel magic.
A Global Sensibility
With nearly two decades of experience in the industry, Pieter’s journey began under the wing of some of Europe’s top designers. Today, through his company Æbele Interiors, he brings his distinct vision to life in projects that merge cosmopolitan glamour with refined comfort.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” he admits, laughing. “Sometimes I can’t keep up with the requests—but I love it. I thrive on that kind of energy.”
Known for his attention to detail, Pieter blends passion with precision. His spaces are sophisticated, yes—but also deeply personal. “I think of interiors as layered experiences,” he explains. “Design isn’t just visual; it’s tactile, emotional, even spiritual. I want people to feel something when they walk into a room. That feeling of being cared for, like when you arrive at a beautiful hotel and everything is just right—that’s what I try to create in a home.”
The Art of Atmosphere
The Æbele aesthetic is unmistakably international: clean yet indulgent, elegant but never austere. Think New York penthouse meets serene Mediterranean retreat. High-end materials—marble, velvet, glass—are paired with rich textures and bespoke finishes. But there’s also an embrace of artisanal work and the imperfect beauty of handmade details.
“I’m drawn to craftsmanship,” Pieter shares. “Small ateliers, passionate makers, people who still weave linen by hand or carve stone with love and patience. Those are the elements that give a home soul.”
Recent projects include custom-made marble bathtubs from Bali and a whimsical hanging chair adorned with ostrich feathers. “It’s these personal touches that make a space unforgettable,” he says.
A Signature Scent
True to his belief that a home should be experienced with all five senses, Pieter has even developed his own signature home fragrance—a bold, masculine scent that reflects his design philosophy.
“To me, a home should be subtle yet strong,” he says. “I like working with tone-on-tone palettes, natural shades, and soft, tactile fabrics. The scent adds a final, invisible layer to the experience—it’s like the warm finish of a good whiskey. Strong at first, then beautifully mellow once it mingles with the air.”
His exclusive house perfume is now available through his webshop, offering clients the chance to bring a bit of the Æbele magic into their own homes.
Living, Elevated
For Pieter, home is more than a space—it’s a sanctuary. “We live fast-paced lives,” he reflects. “At home, people crave peace, warmth, and authenticity. Design should provide that. It should slow you down, make you breathe, invite you to just be.”
Whether he’s designing for a beachfront villa or a chic city loft, Pieter Æbele Elzenga continues to redefine what luxury living looks—and feels—like.
