Meliá Hotels International, Spain’s leading hotel group, has announced the signing of a new luxury property as part of its strategy to strengthen its footprint in key Latin American destinations and continue expanding its high-end portfolio. The latest addition to The Meliá Collection—the brand that brings together a curated selection of distinctive, character-driven hotels—will introduce an exclusive new retreat in Argentine Patagonia.
Named The Meliá Collection Terrazas del Gutiérrez, the hotel will rise in Bariloche, one of Southern Argentina’s most celebrated destinations and a natural gateway to Patagonia. Set within the sweeping landscapes of Nahuel Huapi National Park and positioned above one of its glacial lakes, the property is set to become one of Meliá’s most exclusive addresses, thanks to its dramatic scenery and panoramic mountain views.
Designed to echo the spirit of The Meliá Collection—a brand defined by hotels with soul, strong identity and a deep connection to their surroundings—the Bariloche project joins a portfolio of exceptional properties in natural settings such as Tanzania’s Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks, Italy’s Tuscany and Tenerife’s Teno Massif. Architecture will play a central role, with the hotel conceived to blend seamlessly into the protected landscape. Plans include 99 rooms and 48 private residences, reflecting the rising demand for homes that pair residential comfort with luxury hotel services.
True to the collection’s hallmarks, the property will offer a refined culinary programme including a signature restaurant, dedicated wellness spaces, and 500 m² of facilities for social and corporate events.
Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, said: “We are thrilled to bring our brand, The Meliá Collection, to Bariloche, one of Argentina’s most iconic destinations and a symbol of Patagonia’s natural beauty and hospitality. This major project reflects our commitment to qualitative growth, our focus on luxury, and our ambition to continue expanding in the region.”
Ivo de Sousa Freile, Executive Director of Terrazas del Gutiérrez, added: “We are passionate about Argentine Patagonia—its people, its nature, and its unique energy. Terrazas del Gutiérrez is envisioned as the gateway to one of the world’s most extraordinary natural paradises, and we are proud to do so alongside a strategic partner like Meliá. Their excellence in hospitality and world-class standards will help position Argentina among the world’s most exclusive destinations. This is just the beginning of a shared journey: we will continue to create world-class infrastructure and authentic experiences that reflect the essence of the place we call home.”
Strengthening Meliá’s Long-Term Presence in Argentina
With The Meliá Collection Terrazas del Gutiérrez scheduled to open in 2028, Meliá Hotels International will have 11 hotels either operating or in development across Argentina. These include high-end properties such as Casa Lucía Hotel—also part of The Meliá Collection—which has quickly become a new emblem of luxury tourism in Buenos Aires since its debut earlier this year.
The group’s luxury brand Gran Meliá already has a landmark presence in the country with Gran Meliá Iguazú, and will expand further with Gran Meliá Ushuaia in 2028, set in yet another of Argentina’s most spectacular landscapes.
