With more than 30 years of experience and an integrated model spanning real estate, architecture, and interior design, bconnected Mallorca has carved out a distinctive place within Mallorca’s luxury property market. We speak to CEO Christine Leja about changing buyer priorities, the island’s ever-growing appeal, and what sets the company apart…
Tell us more about BConnected Mallorca, its approach and what makes its offerings unique in the Mallorcan property market…
From the very beginning, I never saw a property simply as a transaction. For me, a home is emotional. It is energy, atmosphere, lifestyle, architecture, design, functionality, and very often even transformation in someone’s life.
When we founded bconnected more than 30 years ago, it became very clear to me that these worlds cannot truly be separated if you want to create something meaningful and lasting. Real estate, architecture, and interior design all influence each other deeply. Many companies focus on one piece of the puzzle. We always wanted to understand the complete picture. That holistic approach became our DNA long before it became a trend.
What sets us apart is that we do not just help clients buy a property—we help them recognise potential, create vision, and ultimately shape an entire way of living. That creates a much deeper relationship and a much more authentic result.
Many agencies focus solely on transactions, whereas BConnected takes a far more holistic approach to creating homes. Was it always important for the company to go beyond traditional real estate, and how has this developed over the years?
Yes, absolutely. It was never fulfilling for me to simply sell square metres.
People are not searching only for a property—they are searching for a feeling, a future, a lifestyle, sometimes even a completely new chapter in life. Especially on Mallorca, emotions play a huge role in why people come here.
Over the years, we naturally evolved further into project development and interior design because our clients increasingly wanted guidance beyond the purchase itself. They trusted our eye, our understanding of spaces, and our ability to see what something could become.
Today, clients appreciate having one trusted team that can accompany them from the first viewing until the final styling details. It creates clarity, consistency, and also emotional security throughout the process.
How do the three departments—real estate, architecture, and interior design—inform one another creatively and strategically?
They constantly inspire each other.
Our real estate team understands the market and the emotional desires of buyers. Our architecture and project development team understands structure, proportions, functionality, and technical possibilities. Our interior design team brings atmosphere, personality, warmth, and identity into the spaces. Because everything is connected internally, we can look at properties very differently. We often see possibilities others overlook.
Strategically, it also allows us to think long-term rather than transaction-based. We are not only asking: “Will this property sell?” We ask: “How can this become extraordinary? How can this property truly improve someone’s life?”
What are you seeing in terms of buyer priorities and lifestyle expectations today, and how have these shifted in recent years?
People have become much more conscious about how they live.
Luxury today is no longer only about size or status. Clients are looking for peace, authenticity, privacy, emotional well-being, natural light, outdoor living, sustainability, and homes that genuinely support their lifestyle. There is also a stronger desire for simplicity and quality. Buyers want homes that feel effortless and emotionally calming rather than overly formal or decorative.
At the same time, people are far more international and informed today. They value design, architecture, and individuality much more than they did a decade ago.
What kinds of properties are currently generating the strongest interest among international buyers? Are there particular areas of Mallorca that you feel are especially exciting, either from an investment or lifestyle perspective?
There continues to be very strong demand for high-quality properties that combine privacy, beautiful architecture, outdoor living, and are not too far from Palma or the sea.
Areas like Palma Old Town, Son Vida, Bendinat, Southwest Coast and Port Andratx, and certain parts of the countryside continue to attract international buyers because they offer both lifestyle and long-term value.
At the same time, we also see increasing interest in more authentic and quieter areas where clients can experience a slower, more connected lifestyle. Many people today are searching for balance rather than pure prestige. The strongest properties are usually the ones with soul—homes that feel unique rather than generic
bconnected often works with clients from the very first viewing through to the finished interiors. How does that continuity influence the end result?
It changes everything. When you accompany a client through the entire journey, you develop a very deep understanding of who they are, how they live, what inspires them emotionally, and what they truly need—often beyond what they initially express themselves.
That continuity creates harmony in the final result because every decision is connected to a bigger vision. It also creates trust. Clients feel supported instead of overwhelmed, especially in a foreign country where processes can sometimes feel complex.
Many international buyers are drawn to Mallorca for lifestyle reasons as much as investment potential. What do you think continues to make the island such a compelling place to live?
Mallorca has a very special energy. It offers an incredible balance between beauty, nature, internationality, culture, gastronomy, creativity, and quality of life. People can live very well here while still feeling connected to Europe and the rest of the world.
What makes the island unique is that it allows people to slow down without disconnecting from ambition or inspiration. For many clients, Mallorca represents a healthier and more conscious way of living.
To what extent are clients today looking for turnkey homes versus properties with renovation potential?
We see both, but the turnkey market has become significantly stronger in recent years. People’s lives have become busier, and many international buyers prefer immediate quality and simplicity. They want to arrive and start living. At the same time, there is still a strong group of clients who are emotionally attracted to renovation projects because they want to create something personal and unique. The key is vision. Many buyers need help understanding the true potential behind a property—and that is where our integrated approach becomes extremely valuable.
Your projects often feel highly personal rather than formulaic. How important is individuality in the way bconnected approaches both property and design?
For us, individuality is everything. I believe homes should reflect the personality, rhythm, and emotions of the people living inside them. Otherwise, spaces can quickly feel interchangeable or soulless.
We never wanted to create “catalogue living”. We always wanted to create homes with identity and character. That is why we spend a lot of time listening and understanding our clients deeply instead of simply following trends.
How would you describe the aesthetic sensibility of bconnected ’s architecture and interiors? Is there a distinctly Mallorcan influence to your approach?
Our aesthetic is emotional, timeless, warm, layered, and highly individual. We love spaces that feel elegant but still relaxed and authentic. Spaces should not feel intimidating—they should feel alive and human.
Mallorca naturally influences our work because the island itself has such a strong identity. The light, textures, natural materials, indoor-outdoor lifestyle, and Mediterranean atmosphere all shape our approach. But we do not believe in copying traditional Mallorcan style literally. We prefer to interpret it in a contemporary, more personal way.
Are clients becoming more adventurous in terms of design and architecture, or are you seeing a continued preference for timeless, understated interiors?
I think clients today are becoming more confident in expressing individuality. There is definitely more openness toward colour, texture, bold materials, and spaces with a stronger personality than we saw years ago. At the same time, people still want longevity. The challenge is creating interiors that feel expressive without becoming trend-driven or quickly outdated. The most successful spaces are usually the ones that balance timelessness with courage.
Mallorca has a rich architectural heritage. When renovating older properties, how do you balance preserving authenticity with introducing contemporary living standards?
Respect is very important. Older properties carry history, atmosphere, proportions, and craftsmanship that should never simply be erased. We always try to preserve the soul of a property while adapting it sensitively to modern living standards.
Today, people expect comfort, technology, energy efficiency, and functionality—but that does not mean losing authenticity. The beauty lies in creating harmony between past and present.
Sustainability, longevity, and smart-home integrations are increasingly shaping luxury living. How are these considerations influencing your projects and your clients’ decisions?
They have become extremely important. Clients today think much more long-term and consciously. Sustainability is no longer only a technical topic—it is increasingly connected to quality of life and responsible living. We see strong interest in energy efficiency, durable natural materials, intelligent technology, water management, and homes that function better emotionally and environmentally. Real luxury today is not excess. Real luxury is quality, longevity, well-being, and thoughtful living.
Has the definition of “luxury” changed in Mallorca over the years? What does luxury mean to clients now compared to a decade ago?
Very much so. Ten years ago, luxury was often more externally driven—bigger homes, visible status, formal elegance. Today, luxury has become far more personal and emotional. Clients value privacy, tranquillity, authenticity, wellness, natural surroundings, flexibility, and time. People increasingly want homes that help them feel balanced rather than impressed.
What are some of the most common misconceptions international buyers have when entering the Mallorca property market for the first time?
Many buyers initially underestimate the complexity of the market. Mallorca is highly emotional, highly international, and also very relationship-driven. The best opportunities are not always visible online.
Another misconception is believing that buying the property is the biggest step. In reality, understanding renovations, legal structures, permits, timelines, costs, and implementation is equally important. That is why having experienced local guidance makes such a difference.
bconnected has now been established for many years. How has the company evolved since its beginnings, and what has remained consistent throughout that growth?
We have evolved enormously in terms of scale, international reach, and the depth of our services. But the core values have remained exactly the same: authenticity, creativity, trust, individuality, and human connection.
We never wanted to become a faceless corporate company. Even after more than 30 years, we still lead very personally and stay deeply connected to our clients and projects. That human aspect has always been one of the most important parts of our identity.
What has been one of the most rewarding projects or milestones for bconnected so far?
For me, the most rewarding moments are not necessarily awards or recognition—although of course those moments are beautiful and meaningful. The truly rewarding part is seeing how deeply spaces can impact people emotionally. When clients walk into their finished home and genuinely feel transformed, relaxed, inspired, or emotionally connected, that is the biggest success for me.
At the same time, I feel proud that after more than three decades, we have built a company culture based on creativity, loyalty, values, and long-term trust.
Looking ahead, are there any emerging trends that particularly interest you? Where do you see Mallorca’s luxury property market heading over the next five to ten years?
I believe the future will become even more experience-driven and emotionally focused. Clients will continue searching for homes that support well-being, flexibility, sustainability, and authentic lifestyle experiences rather than pure prestige.
Architecturally, I see a growing movement toward warmer minimalism, natural materials, more tactile spaces, and homes that feel emotionally grounding rather than overly polished.
Mallorca will remain one of Europe’s most desirable destinations because it offers something increasingly rare: beauty, safety, international accessibility, nature, and quality of life all in one place.
I believe truly individual and thoughtfully designed properties will continue to stand out more and more in the years ahead.
