It’s no secret that the Blue Lagoon, set on the picturesque Reykjanes Peninsula in the island’s south west, is a tourist hotspot.
Visitors flock here in extraordinary numbers to experience the mineral-enriched waters – more than 700,000 visitors made a pitstop in 2014 alone, with numbers continuing to increase since.
The site is now to set to have its first luxury hotel, with access to a private swimming area set apart from the main body of the lagoon for added exclusivity.
Named Moss Hotel, it will offer 62 luxuriously appointed rooms with tasteful Scandinavian style, complete with freestanding bathtubs and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the striking volcanic landscape.
Rooms on the ground floor will also have direct access to the geothermal waters via private terraces; upper floor rooms will have balconies.
The hotel will also offer guests access to Lava Cove, a subterranean spa complete with sauna, lava rock-heated steam room and a range mineral-based treatments.
For those who enjoy the most exclusive of experiences, guests will be able to rent out a private, self-contained spa called Hidden Cove. This luxurious space will come with a butler, on-call chef and private masseuse – plus its very own section of the lagoon.
For the foodies, sink a fork into dishes at Moss Restaurant – which will serve up traditional Icelandic dishes. Enjoy a seven-course tasting menu available at the Chef’s Table, whilst drinks and hors d’oeuvres can be had in The Lounge – an elegant bar on the top floor with views as good as the tipples.
