Designed to inject a new lease of life into the much-loved island, a slick, fresh new look will be revealed when the resort re-opens for the winter season in October.
Natural beauty
Ringed with coral reefs, and easily accessed by a short private boat transfer from mainland Antigua with not a car in sight, this secluded isle of white-powdered beaches and winding bicycle paths is a one-of-a-kind hideaway.
Among discerning travellers, Jumby Bay Island is known as ‘the jewel in the crown of Caribbean resorts’, encapsulating everything about a far-flung hideaway – with secluded sun-kissed beaches lapped by pristine turquoise waters; private sand-side picnics; and barefoot walks across Jumby’s long golden sand bar that gives the illusion that it is floating in the open sea.
Laid-back style
Renowned Brazilian interior designer – Patricia Anastassiadis of Anastassiadis Arquitetos – is responsible for the project, having created a bespoke design concept for Oetker Collection sister property, Palácio Tangará which opened to great acclaim in Brazil last year. Combining the finest aesthetic finishes to high-spec functional technology, the redesigned Jumby Bay will strike a balance between laidback tropical style and a casual elegance.
Think light and airy tones paired with lush greenery, reflecting the island’s natural beauty and evoking a feeling of refined, relaxed luxury. Rattan furniture and nautical-inspired rope-like textures will adorn the new spaces. The renovations will put a contemporary spin on the resort’s informal tradition, with each change made with the guest experience in mind.
Delicious dining
What’s more, the reopening will see the launch of a new Italian restaurant and stylish retail boutique, as well as a face-lift for existing public areas such as the Lounge, bar and reception. Inspiration for these areas has been drawn from the sky and the sea, where light natural textures are weaved with statuarietto marble to create a cool and calm aesthetic.
Jumby Bay will also welcome a renewed beachfront restaurant, The Jumby Bay Veranda which will combine elegant Italian dining in a traditional Caribbean setting. Handmade maritime rope sculptures will embellish the walls perfectly complementing charcoal drawings of the island’s local flora and fauna, while a classic antique pale wood canoe pays homage to the indigenous Arawak Indians in the Caribbean.
Spa sanctuary
Finally, no tropical visit could be complete without a spot of TLC. The Jumby Bay Spa will be the ultimate sanctuary providing a truly tranquil setting for guests to while away a spa day, revived with a beautiful new relaxation area, dry and wet/hot and cold sauna and plunge pool, in addition to two double and three single treatment rooms. The vaulted ceilings and stone entryways have been inspired by the islands own sugar mill and carry the scent of the neighbouring tropical gardens – perfect for a naturally enchanting experience.
