If you still haven’t decided where to spend your winter ski holiday, let us help you with your decision…

Ski resort Flachau lies in the Austrian Alps in the Salzburg region and is part of the prestigious Ski Amadé that has a plethora of ski areas under its wing. Flachau is easy to reach from one of Austria’s main motorways. The natural charm of village life is complemented perfectly by the latest in cableway lifts, wide and superbly groomed pistes, cosy ski lodges, après-ski bars and entertainment.

But what makes this skiing here even more special are the culinary creations by chef Lukas Ziesel, who is heading the kitchen at Lisa Alm. This restaurant with a difference consists of a ski lounge, a bar and a restaurant area, offering its own patisserie, an extensive wine menu and a DJ, entertaining the skiers with club sounds instead of the usual ski hut songs, while chilling and enjoying the culinary delights of the kitchen team in the newly built “sky terrace”.

Ziesel has trained with the most prominent chefs of top gastronomy, most recently as head chef at Le Brasserie le Rouge in Stockholm. Before that, Ziesel worked at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Shanghai, at Jack London Restaurant as well as M1NT restaurant, and received several awards. He also worked at two-Michelin-star restaurant Steirereck in Vienna as well as restaurant Tantris in Munich and Andreas Döllerer’s eponymous restaurant in Golling.

His menu will please both the sophisticated diner and the average ski hut visitor. Food ranges from the traditional soups and hearty winter fare to elaborately cooked beef and even sushi and home-made liqueurs. Ziesel, who is a native of the area, often uses his grandmother’s recipes, applying the experience he made in the world’s finest kitchens, giving them a modern twist, and using the finest local products.
