Following last week’s news that the Bib Gourmand distinction had been awarded to 133 New York restaurants, we could hardly wait for the results of the Michelin Star Guide and now they are finally upon us.

This year the 11th annual Michelin Guide NYC revealed that awhopping 76 restaurants had earned either one, two, or three Michelin Stars forthe city, with 10newcomers to the one star category and 1 for the two star. Notable restaurants to join the 60-strong one starlist for the first time wereGabriel Kreuther,Tempura Matsui, Sushi Yasuda, Cagen, Hirohisa, Somtum Der, Uncle Boons, andRebelle.Brooklyn saw itself earning two of these new one-starred restaurants with Semillaand The Finch.

In this year’s edition, the biggest news is that The Modernhas now joined the two star list, bringing the total of two starred restaurants in the city’s guide to ten. The promotion of The Modern has been on a steady incline sinceexecutive chef Abram Bisselltook control of the kitchen and introduced a new menu of contemporary and creative cuisine.

With the results of this year’s guide said to be quite similar to last year’s bar a few exceptions, the only minor ‘disappointments’ includedDaniel, from Daniel Boulud, which dropped from three stars to two last year retaining its two stars for 2016. Other than this, all the big players from last year’s three star category which included;Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa, Per Se and Jean-Georges, have all remained in the top spots. Equally, two-star winners such asAquavit, Blanca, Ichimura, Jungsik, Marea,Soto,Atera, and Momofuku Ko have all kept their coveted two star position.
