In June of this year London gallery, Long-Sharp in collaboration with Masterpiece London, will be displaying previously unseen work by Pop Artist, Andy Warhol.
The painting that has been causing quite a stir within the art world is entitled ‘The Socialite’ and is thought to depict Olga Berde Mahl, an attorney and real estate agent based out of New York.It is thought that the unseenwork was created around 1986-1987 and was one half of a two part series that Warhol made for Olga as payment for the studio he rented from her at 123 Watts Street. The studio in question was where he developed some of his most famous works and was his base until his death in 1987.
Speaking about acquiring the highly anticipated and rare piece was Rhonda Long-Sharp, owner and director of Long-Sharp Gallery, who stated that.
“We reserved this exceptional, fresh to the market, hand signed work for exhibition at Masterpiece London. The provenance — Andy Warhol to Olga Berde Mahl via her agent Ronald Feldman — speaks both to the integrity of the piece and our gallery’s decision to acquire it.”
The second half of the duo he made for Olga is still in her possession and both pieces come with an approved affidavit of authenticity.
The previously unseen delight will join Warhol’s infamous line up of female portraits that depict some of the most famous women of his era, including Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy amongst others.
The 2015 fair will take place from 25 June – 1 July 2015, with a special guest preview on 24 June so don’t miss out on the chance to see a never been seen before exclusive.
