COMO Hotels and Resorts has announced the full reopening of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, marking a major milestone in the property’s 22-year history and bringing a refreshed sense of contemporary hospitality to the Central Business District in the heart of the Thai capital.
The redesign, which covers all studio and metropolitan rooms, has been led by Italian designer Paola Navone. It’s her second project in Thailand for COMO, following the brand’s island property, COMO Point Yamu in Phuket. The pairing reflects COMO’s long-standing ambition to combine urban energy with a considered, modern aesthetic.
Navone’s approach avoids cultural pastiche, instead expressing a modern sense of place through local materials such as wood, ceramic and stone. Playful details—from oversized woven seatbacks to bursts of Buddhist orange—bring a confident, contemporary feel. Simple, tactile textures, including marble, are highlighted through natural light and shadow, while the lobby counter in textured stone references traditional Thai masonry and temple walls. An overhead bamboo feature wall recalls screens that filter the tropical light in Thailand’s traditional architecture.
“With our urban properties, I’ve always wanted to create hotels with spirit which are dynamic and design-forward,” says COMO Hotels and Resorts’ founder, Christina Ong, who opened her first Metropolitan hotel in London in 1997. “But they also need to be elegant and exceptionally comfortable — places where our guests can retreat from the city to enjoy a pared-back, almost meditative simplicity.” This interplay between lively city living and restorative calm shapes the hotel’s culinary and wellness experiences.
Set on the ground floor, nahm, the hotel’s celebrated Thai restaurant led by Chef Pim Techamuanvivit, has been awarded an eighth consecutive one-Michelin star in the Michelin Guide 2025. Known for its refined interpretation of regional Thai cuisine, nahm continues to offer a deep dive into the sweet, salty, hot and sour complexities of the country’s culinary heritage. Reservations are essential.
Complementing this is COMO Cuisine, making its Thai debut on the hotel’s second floor with an extensive all-day dining menu. Developed by Australian chef Daniel Moran, COMO’s Culinary Vice President, together with COMO Group Executive Chef Amanda Gale, the menu includes salads, soups, meats, fish, sharing dishes, classics and children’s favourites. Many options come from the COMO Shambhala Kitchen — a whole-food focused concept featuring low-sugar, low-salt dishes free from artificial additives, alongside energising juices created with COMO’s nutritionist.
Wellness remains a central pillar of the hotel. Guests can unwind at the COMO Shambhala wellness centre, which features 10 treatment rooms, a yoga studio, gym and hydro pool. The Navone-designed lobby and 25-metre outdoor pool also invite relaxation, encouraging guests to disconnect from the intensity of the city.
New experiences aim to connect travellers to Bangkok’s cultural and creative landscape. Among them is a private shopping experience in partnership with Club 21 — another company founded by Christina Ong — offering access to curated men’s and womenswear across selected stores in the city. Wine enthusiasts can explore the Monsoon Valley Siam Winery, located just outside Bangkok, through an Iconic Experience that explores Thai terroir and supports wine pairings recently introduced at nahm.
The reopening also marks a wider moment for the brand. “We now have five urban hotels, with two in London, and one in Perth, Singapore and Bangkok. They all share a careful balance of public style and private calm,” says Olivier Jolivet, CEO of COMO. With 137 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, COMO Metropolitan Bangkok enters this new chapter positioned as both a sanctuary and a gateway to the city.
