The Cannes Yachting Festival returns for its 49th edition this September, bringing world premieres, new innovations, and a renewed sense of direction to the Riviera.

The Mediterranean yachting calendar is filled with landmark events, but few feel quite as consequential as Cannes in September. Before Monaco steps into the spotlight and long before the trade winds of winter charter season begin to pick up speed, the quays of the Côte d’Azur become the industry’s first major meeting point. Builders unveil the projects they have guarded in secrecy, buyers step aboard future flagships, and conversations held dockside often shape the direction of the sailing year ahead. From 8 to 13 September 2026, the Cannes Yachting Festival returns for its 49th edition, reaffirming its position not simply as Europe’s largest in-water boat show but as one of the defining events of the international yachting calendar.

There are larger exhibition halls elsewhere, and events with different priorities, but Cannes has long occupied a distinct position among boating enthusiasts. Its appeal lies partly in geography. Few settings feel more naturally suited to yachting than the Bay of Cannes, where gleaming hulls sit against the backdrop of Belle Époque façades, palm-lined promenades, and the Riviera’s shifting golden light. Yet atmosphere alone does not explain the festival’s standing. Cannes has become the place where the season effectively begins, an early indication of where design, technology, and owner demand are moving next.

For six days, more than 700 boats ranging from five to 50 metres will line the water across the city’s two principal harbours, the Vieux Port and Port Canto. Nearly 150 world premieres are expected, alongside more than 680 exhibitors spanning every corner of the market, from sailing yachts and day boats to superyachts, brokerage opportunities, engines, tenders, and specialist marine services. With an anticipated 56,000 international visitors, the scale remains formidable, though the event is far more relaxed and easy to navigate than the numbers might suggest.

Part of that comes down to organisation. Rather than concentrating everything into a single marina, the festival unfolds across two complementary locations, each with its own flow and focus. At the Vieux Port, motor yachts take centre stage. Here, visitors move between flybridge cruisers, open yachts, RIBs, and vessels stretching up to 50 metres, alongside an increasingly strong presence of multihulls in the Power Cat Village. Superyachts command attention on the water, while shoreside exhibitors showcase everything from propulsion systems and navigation technology to interiors and specialist equipment. In 2026, the evolving profile of the new Jetée will further enhance the port’s layout, creating an expanded exhibition space for yachts afloat while relocating larger vessels to Quai Max Laubeuf.

Port Canto offers a different ambience entirely. Since establishing itself as a dedicated sailing destination within the festival, it has become one of the strongest draws for fans of performance cruising and long-distance passagemaking. The Sailing Area will once again host what organisers describe as the world’s largest in-water display of sailing yachts over 10 metres, including around 120 new boats, while the Power Boat Marina gathers smaller motor craft and day boats in one place. Alongside this sits an increasingly active brokerage sector, where more than 45 yachts exceeding 25 metres are expected to be presented, offering buyers the opportunity to compare pre-owned options in a single setting.

Importantly, the festival continues to perfect the ease of movement between these two worlds. A fully connected 2.5-kilometre route through Port Canto improves continuity for visitors, while sea shuttles crossing between the harbours every 15 minutes have become part of the experience itself; a welcome, calming pause between appointments, accompanied by beautiful Riviera views rather than the bustle of shuttle buses and exhibition halls.

What increasingly distinguishes Cannes, however, is its role as a measure of the industry’s direction. If previous editions were largely about size, aesthetics, and extravagance, recent years have demonstrated a broader shift in priorities. Across the sector, conversations around sustainability, alternative propulsion, and smarter onboard systems have moved from niche interest to commercial reality—and Cannes has become one of the best places to observe that transition unfolding.

The festival’s Innovation Route, now entering its second year in 2026, reflects that momentum. Designed as a curated pathway through the show, it highlights technologies and ideas considered to be pushing the industry forward, from cleaner propulsion systems and alternative energy solutions to advances in safety, efficiency, and onboard simplicity. A jury of international professionals and journalists will once again recognise standout projects through the Innovation Route Awards, further reinforcing Cannes’ role as a platform not just for launches but for ideas that are piloting the future of boating.

This year’s edition also signifies a period of change behind the scenes. The 49th Cannes Yachting Festival will be the first under the direction of Constance Brément, whose background in sailing and luxury signals an intention to strengthen the event’s international reach while bolstering its sense of occasion. Her ambition is to evolve the festival in ways that preserve what Cannes already does exceptionally well: bringing together the entire boating world in one place while making the experience feel genuinely enjoyable for visitors.

“In a constantly changing environment, the Cannes Yachting Festival reaffirms its role as a strategic partner and growth lever for the international yachting sector,” Brément says. “We are continuing our mission to provide an exceptional setting to highlight innovations in the sector and launch the season.”

That mission feels particularly relevant at a time when yachting itself is progressing faster than ever. Buyers are asking different questions. Flexibility matters more. Efficiency is non-negotiable. Design increasingly balances performance with responsibility. Yet for all the discussion around innovation, Cannes retains something refreshingly simple at its core: the pleasure of seeing extraordinary boats where they belong—in the water, under Mediterranean skies, with the possibility of stepping aboard and imagining where they might go next.
