Paradisus Cancun has reopened following a comprehensive $50 million renovation, introducing redesigned accommodation, an expanded dining programme and new facilities for families, adults and groups.
The all-inclusive resort, operated by Meliá Hotels International, occupies a beachfront location in Cancún and remains one of the destination’s most recognisable properties. Its original five-pyramid structure has been preserved, while the interiors and guest experience have been extensively updated more than 35 years after the hotel first opened.
Each pyramid was conceived to resemble the interior of a cenote, with hanging plants, flowing water and open spaces reflecting the natural landscape and Mayan heritage of the Yucatán Peninsula. The renovation builds on these elements through natural materials, warm colours, handcrafted details and contemporary comforts.
“Paradisus Cancun is a truly special property for both the company and for our family, as it remains one of the most distinctive resorts in Cancun, originally opened more than 35 years ago by our founder,” said Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.
“The reopening of Paradisus Cancun embodies the essence of our purpose: to elevate luxury experiences in the world’s most coveted destinations, creating unforgettable moments in a setting that blends culture, wellness, and sophistication, all delivered with the warm, exceptional hospitality that defines Meliá.”
All 773 suites have been redesigned for the reopening. The new interiors combine organic textures and locally influenced details with practical additions suited to contemporary travellers, while retaining the sense of openness created by the resort’s unusual architecture.
The transformation also introduces nine dining options, seven bars, a gelato shop and a Coffee Corner by Nespresso. Among the new venues is Vibra, a colourful restaurant serving bold gourmet dishes, while Kao specialises in contemporary Japanese cuisine. Zesty focuses on comfort food, and Gastro Hall offers buffet-style dining built around local and international specialities.
Several established restaurants have also been reworked. Sal, the resort’s steakhouse, now has oceanfront views, while Capella serves Italian classics in a more intimate setting. Agua Marina draws on seafood and ingredients from Mexico’s coasts.
Blue Agave, the resort’s Mexican taqueria, has been refreshed, as has Sante, a Mediterranean restaurant reserved exclusively for guests staying in The Reserve.
The resort continues to operate under the Paradisus by Meliá Destination Inclusive® concept, which incorporates experiences inspired by the surrounding destination into each stay. At Paradisus Cancun, these include workshops with local artisans, cooking classes and private yoga sessions.
Other activities draw more directly on Mayan culture, including performances incorporating pre-Hispanic chants, sounds and scents. Guests can also take part in sound-healing sessions beside the sea or within the resort’s gardens.
The all-inclusive package covers accommodation, meals across the restaurants, daily snacks beside the pool, 24-hour room service and a minibar replenished each day with selected drinks. Facilities include two main swimming pools, four pickleball courts and a newly equipped fitness centre.
Guests staying in the resort’s premium Family Concierge and The Reserve categories also have access to an off-site Destination Inclusive® experience: a sunset cruise through Cancún’s Nichupté Lagoon.
The redesigned Family Concierge has been created for families looking for more space and additional support during their stay. It includes larger suites, a private lounge, reserved areas of the beach, access to selected restaurants and a dedicated Destination Concierge service. Amenities are provided for guests of different ages.
The Reserve, meanwhile, is an adults-only experience for guests aged 18 and over. It offers its own lounges, reserved sections beside the pool and on the beach, exclusive dining experiences and personal assistance from a Destination Concierge.
Family facilities have been expanded considerably as part of the renovation. The new Aquazone splash park includes slides and interactive water areas, while the redesigned Kidsdom club provides creative, educational and interactive programmes for infants and children.
Dedicated spaces and activities have also been introduced for teenagers and young adults, reflecting the resort’s greater focus on holidays involving several generations of the same family.
Wellness remains another important part of the hotel. YHI Spa takes inspiration from Mayan traditions and includes heated treatment rooms, a water ritual, sauna, steam room and a healthy drinks bar. Its YHI Moves programme offers organised fitness activities, including spinning classes.
Paradisus Cancun has also increased its capacity for conferences, weddings and private events. The resort now offers more than 32,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, placing it among the largest convention facilities in the Paradisus by Meliá portfolio.
Its 22 event rooms and breakout spaces are supported by updated technology, catering services and a dedicated events team, allowing the resort to host everything from business retreats to large celebrations.
A newly renovated Bridal Suite has also been added for weddings. Positioned close to the resort’s gazebo, it features ocean views, updated interiors and space for brides and their parties to prepare before the ceremony.
With the renovation complete, Paradisus Cancun returns with a broader range of experiences while retaining the architecture that has defined the resort for more than three decades. The result is a property designed to accommodate very different kinds of stays, from family holidays and adults-only escapes to weddings, conferences and long weekends centred on food and wellness.
