As wellness travel continues to evolve, more travellers are looking to the sea for restoration. Thalassotherapy, the centuries-old practice centred on the healing properties of seawater and marine minerals, is seeing renewed interest, with Google searches for the treatment reportedly rising by 450% last year. On TikTok, interest in “#oceantherapy” has also grown significantly, increasing by 214.8% over the past six months alone.
Responding to this growing appetite for sea-led wellbeing, AMARA, the five-star hotel in Limassol, Cyprus, has introduced a new Thalassotherapy Retreat inspired by the restorative qualities of the Mediterranean Sea.
Set within the hotel’s 3,000m² AMARA Spa, the new retreat is available as either a three- or five-day programme. Both options are designed around the resort’s adults-only seawater infinity pool, which overlooks the Mediterranean, and combine spa treatments, movement sessions and time to unwind. The idea is to offer guests a flexible way to reset, whether they are looking for a short wellness break or a more immersive stay.
The three-day retreat begins with AMARA’s signature Cyprus Ancient Ritual, a sensorial treatment inspired by ingredients native to the island. Organic olive oil, crushed carob seeds and warmed citrus fruit are used to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin, before the ritual concludes with a full-body massage infused with rosemary and lemon essences to encourage deep relaxation.
Throughout the programme, guests will also experience a curated selection of facial and body treatments, including the AMARA Elite Facial and a detoxifying sea salt and seaweed exfoliation, designed to stimulate circulation and refresh the skin. Calming yoga sessions and a Mediterranean head massage, focused on relieving tension and restoring balance, are also included.
For those choosing the five-day retreat, the programme expands with additional treatments and movement-based experiences. Highlights include the Rose and Jasmine Aroma Massage, as well as the Revitalising Cryo Facial, which combines microcurrent technology, light therapy and cryotherapy with active ingredients to help tighten, lift and restore radiance to the skin. The extended retreat also includes a studio Pilates session and an Aqua Aerobics class, a hydro-cardio workout held in the resort’s seawater pool.
Guests on both programmes will have daily access to AMARA’s wider wellness and fitness facilities, including the adults-only outdoor saltwater infinity pool, thermal facilities, indoor swimming pool, Technogym-equipped fitness centre and floodlit tennis court. The spa’s library and juice bar also provide quieter spaces for rest, reflection and downtime between treatments.
With its Mediterranean setting and considered approach to wellbeing, AMARA’s new Thalassotherapy Retreat adds a fresh dimension to the hotel’s wellness offering. Centred on sea-inspired treatments, gentle movement and restorative rituals, it positions the Limassol resort as a leading destination for those seeking a more holistic escape in Cyprus.
