As the appetite for cooler summer escapes continues to grow, the mountains are having a moment. According to Skyscanner, 71% of travellers are now considering or planning a mountain break for summer or autumn 2026, while searches for “room with a mountain view” have risen by 103% year on year. Against this backdrop, eriro Alpine Hide in Ehrwald is entering the summer season with a renewed focus on restorative alpine wellness.
Set at 1,550 metres in the Austrian Alps, the nine-suite hideaway has introduced three new wellness rituals designed around grounding, release and renewal, alongside a new outdoor swimming pool that deepens the property’s connection to its mountain setting.
The treatments have been developed by eriro’s Spa Manager and expert skin specialist, Selma, and draw on traditional techniques, sensory therapies and the surrounding landscape. Each ritual combines bodywork, botanical infusions and mindful touch, creating a slower, more intuitive approach to wellbeing.
The Grounding ritual is centred on stability and a sense of connection with nature. The 90-minute experience begins with a regenerating foot scrub and warming stone pine foot bath, followed by targeted massage work from the feet through the calves and thighs to ease deep muscle tension. Guests can also choose to extend the ritual outdoors with a barefoot walk through alpine meadows or a revitalising Kneipp therapy session in nature, before returning to the calm of the spa.
For those seeking deeper relaxation, Letting Go is designed to quiet the mind and encourage emotional release. The treatment opens with a warm oil pour over the forehead and scalp, before moving into a full-body massage using aromatic oils such as alpine rose or lavender. Flowing, Ayurvedic-inspired strokes are combined with gentle skin-stimulating techniques, followed by a head and facial massage that leaves the body feeling lighter and more at ease.
The third treatment, the Cleansing Ritual, focuses on purification and renewal. It begins with an invigorating dry brush massage using natural bristles to stimulate circulation and support lymphatic flow, before a nourishing body balm is applied. The ritual is completed with a cup of nettle tea, chosen for its naturally cleansing properties.
Wellness at eriro is closely tied to place. The lower-ground floor spa sits among raw rock and alpine meadow, with two saunas and a series of onsen-style pools fed by naturally filtered mountain spring water. Its philosophy is rooted in salus per aquam, or healing through water, with spaces designed to encourage stillness rather than spectacle.
There is also a strong sense of local memory within the spa. One relaxation room takes inspiration from hay, nodding to the mountain barns once used on the site to store straw and hay. Throughout the property, the design favours raw materials, tactile textures and a pared-back aesthetic, allowing the warmth of wood, the weight of stone and the changing alpine light to shape the mood.
The arrival of summer brings another dimension to the experience. As the snow retreats, wildflower meadows bloom, forest trails reopen and the surrounding Zugspitze region becomes a natural playground for gentle exploration. Guests can take part in barefoot woodland walks, guided forest meditation and foraging excursions, or head out on tailored hikes with eriro’s in-house experts.
One seasonal highlight is the route to Seebensee Lake, where clear mountain water offers the chance for a cold-water dip — an invigorating contrast to the quiet warmth of the spa. The new outdoor pool, introduced for the summer season, continues this dialogue between water, landscape and renewal.
Far from the energy of busier alpine resorts, eriro offers a low-stimulation alternative for travellers looking to slow down. Here, summer wellness is not treated as a fixed programme but as something more instinctive: a chance to move with the landscape, listen to the body and let the mountains set the pace.
