COMO Hotels and Resorts is set to open its first property in Bordeaux with the relaunch of a historic Médoc estate, marking a considered expansion into one of the world’s most storied wine regions. Reopening on 1 May 2026, COMO Cordeillan-Bages brings new life to a 19th-century landmark on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, realised in close collaboration with the Cazes family, owners of Château Lynch-Bages.
The project reflects a meeting of two family-led institutions. COMO’s long-standing emphasis on craftsmanship, precision and understated luxury finds a natural counterpart in the Cazes family’s deep-rooted presence in the Médoc, where wine, gastronomy and heritage are inseparable. Together, the partnership signals a shared approach to hospitality grounded in both legacy and longevity.
Located in Pauillac, at the heart of the Médoc, the estate sits among the vineyards and châteaux that define Bordeaux’s most celebrated appellations. As COMO’s third property in France, it forms a natural counterpart to COMO Le Montrachet in Burgundy, extending the brand’s presence across two of the country’s most respected wine regions. The setting places guests within easy reach of some of the world’s most renowned estates, including three of Bordeaux’s five First Growths.
The transformation of the property, known for its distinctive turrets dating back to the 17th century, has been led by Italian designer Paola Navone, who also oversaw the redesign of COMO Le Montrachet. Her approach touches every aspect of the hotel, from its 28 rooms and suites—including two signature COMO Suites—to the gastronomic restaurant and the 25-metre outdoor pool, as well as a gym and sauna. The interiors balance contemporary comfort with a strong sense of place, drawing on local materials and textures while maintaining a restrained, considered aesthetic. The result is a dialogue between past and present, where clarity, warmth and a quiet refinement define each space.
Wine remains central to the experience. Through its close relationship with Château Lynch-Bages, the hotel offers guests access to experiences rarely available to the public, positioning it as a natural base for oenophiles. Beyond the estate, the wider Médoc region unfolds through vineyard-lined roads, historic villages and a landscape that stretches from pine forests to the Atlantic coast, some 30 kilometres away. The hotel also sits along the famed Route des Châteaux, placing some of Bordeaux’s most iconic wineries within easy reach.
A short six-minute walk leads to the restored village of Bages, where artisanal boutiques and a convivial bistro anchor a quietly animated local scene. Nearby villages continue this balance of heritage and contemporary life, with independent shops, wine boutiques and gastronomic restaurants contributing to the area’s character.
Olivier Jolivet, CEO of COMO Holdings, said: “Following the success of COMO Le Montrachet, we are delighted to expand our presence in another of the world’s great wine regions. The Médoc’s heritage and craftsmanship resonate strongly with COMO’s values and with COMO Cordeillan-Bages, we will reimagine Bordeaux’s traditions through a contemporary expression of quiet luxury in the heart of the Médoc”.
Jean-Charles Cazes, CEO of Château Lynch-Bages, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with a family group of such standing, united by shared values and a common pursuit of excellence. First opened 35 years ago, Cordeillan-Bages was among the pioneering hotels of wine tourism in the region. Today, this collaboration marks a natural continuation of our enduring commitment to the Médoc and to Cordeillan-Bages, while giving the property a new momentum for the years ahead.”
The opening of COMO Cordeillan-Bages marks the brand’s third property in France, joining COMO Le Beauvallon in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, which is set to open on 24 April 2026.
The hotel will operate seasonally from March to November, with rates starting from €350 per night in low season. Reservations can be made via comohotels.com/cordeillanbages.
