This summer, a taste of one of Cape Town’s most talked-about dining destinations is making its way to the heart of London. From 13 August, The Pot Luck Club—widely regarded as the “coolest place to eat in Cape Town”—will be taking up residence at The Waldorf Hilton’s flagship dining room, Homage, for an exciting 3-month pop-up.
It’s a meeting of two icons: The Pot Luck Club, known for its fearless approach to flavour and inventive small plates, and The Waldorf Hilton, a London landmark since 1908. Founded by William Waldorf Astor as one of the city’s first hotels to offer not just rooms but a full social scene, The Waldorf has long been woven into London’s cultural fabric. More than a century later, this collaboration feels like a return to that spirit—a grand setting for an equally dynamic dining experience.
The Pot Luck Club is the creation of British-born chef Luke Dale Roberts, one of South Africa’s most celebrated culinary figures. Perched high above Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill, the restaurant has built a devoted following for its eclectic, globally inspired menu and its knack for balancing boldness with finesse. For its London debut, Dale Roberts and his Cape Town operations team will oversee the launch personally, with Sous Chef Rachel Maroun leading the kitchen throughout the residency.
“We’ve talked about bringing The Pot Luck Club to London for years, and it was always the city that made sense,” says Luke Dale Roberts. “As a Brit, there’s something meaningful about returning in this way, partnering with one of London’s landmark hotels and sharing what we’ve built in Cape Town with a new audience. We’ve been fortunate to grow an international following at home, and this feels like the natural next step.”
The menu will spotlight a rotation of small plates that pull inspiration from across the globe while celebrating British seasonality—think smoked beef fillet with truffle café au lait sauce, springbok tataki with mandarin gastrique, and Cape Malay-spiced vegetarian dishes. In the bar, Head Bartender Abby Long has collaborated with the restaurant team to create a cocktail list that mirrors the kitchen’s creativity, introducing seasonal ingredients, house infusions, and, for the first time, a dedicated bar snacks menu by Dale Roberts himself.
In keeping with the original’s atmosphere, the service will aim for that elusive sweet spot: relaxed but meticulous. The Waldorf’s dining room will be subtly reimagined to reflect The Pot Luck Club’s edge, set against the hotel’s unmistakable character.
“This partnership is a perfect match — bringing together one of London’s landmark hotels and one of South Africa’s most celebrated restaurants,” says Guy Hilton, Area General Manager of The Waldorf Hilton. “We eagerly look forward to welcoming Luke and his talented team to join forces with our Food & Drink heroes, as we present an innovative menu that promises to delight our guests.”
Dinner will be served daily from 5pm, with the final sitting at 10pm. Guests can opt for the à la carte menu, a quick Lite prix fixe, or the full Loaded tasting experience. Whether you’re dropping in before a West End show or settling in for the night, this is one pop-up worth securing a table for.
