The new Michelin Guide Kansai 2014 was released yesterday, 22 October 2014, revealing a new generation of one, two and three Michelin starred restaurants located in Japan’s western regions, including: Osaka, Kobe, and Nara.
Compared to last year’s guide, Michelin Guide Kansai 2014 features two more three-star restaurants, Mizai and Kichisen, bringing western Japan’s total of top rated restaurants to a total number of 14. Situated in the extensive grounds of Maruyama Park, just outside the centre of Kyoto, restaurant Mizai is a converted tea house headed by chef Ishihara which serves traditional Japanese cuisine in a charming surrounding. Also showcasing the best of authentic Japanese cuisine in an intimate setting, restaurant Kichisen is located in the vicinity of Shimogamo-jinja Shrine, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site just outside of Kyoto, headed by chef Yoshimi Tanigawa.
Alongside its 14 three-star rated restaurants, Michelin Guide Kansai 2014 also includes 51 restaurants with two-star rating, three of those – restaurant Akai, Miyamoto and Point – newly rated, and 202 one-star restaurants.
