Some people are born entrepreneurs and it certainly seems that way for brothers Danny and Kieran Clancy, who this month celebrate the launch of their new restaurant,Beagle.
Whilst Danny is the director of one-off pop-up seafood shack,Bonnie Gull, now apermanent set-up in Fitzrovia by popular demand, both are owners of a unique music events company, krankbrotherand now, founders of London’s hot new off-beat eatery in Shoreditch.
Set within three beautifully renovated railway arches on Geffrye Street, next to Hoxton Station,Beagletakes its name from one of the locomotives that used to operate on the old North London line overhead and will boast a floor made from reclaimed railway sleepers – an unusual set-up which has the bespoke interior design company Fabled Studio’s name written all over it. The food will be of equal stature, with one of London’s most exciting young chefs, James Ferguson (former head chef at Rochelle Canteen) delivering seasonal produce-led British cooking, with menus changing on a daily basis.

We first heard aboutStory’s opening from an inside source highlighting the opening not of the actual restaurant, but of the telephone line specially dedicated to taking bookingsforthe restaurant’s opening. With this in mind – and the fact that the restaurant has only 42 covers available for lunch and dinner – we at FOUR can’t imagine just how popular Tom Sellers’ first permanent restaurant,Story, will be once it opens on 16 April. Tom’s CV includes working with Thomas Keller at The French Laundry and Per Se, Tom Aikens at his Chelsea restaurant, Adam Byatt at Trinity and René Redzepi at Noma. He also ran a hugely successful pop-up, Foreword, in November 2011. Tom’s creative cuisine – which features a choice between a six-course (£45) or ten-course (£65) menu – will include his signature Bread & Dripping, and dishes such as scallops, cucumber & dill ash, beef cheek and stout and cauliflower yeast.

Jason Atherton’s second restaurant in the capital,Social Eating House, opens this month in Soho with a more affordable menu on offer.
With a contemporary bistro menu paying homage to the best of British cooking with international influences, Jason Atherton is set to give punters a more informal dining experience than at his other restaurant, Pollen Street Social.
The menu atSocial Eating Housewill include head chef Paul Hood’s signature dishes; ravioli of wild boar bolognaise, peppered hearts and kidney and flamed cote de pork with beetroot, white polenta, spring onion and savory. The menu is set to be complemented by the soft buzz from the outside Soho area and is modelled on Atherton’s original vision: to create a “social restaurant where the surroundings are as vibrant as the food where people will be able to enjoy a good meal that is good value.” Time will tell if Atherton’s vision pays off.

Rivea, Saint Tropez
The iconic Byblos Hotel in Saint Tropez has announced the opening of Alain Ducasse’s latest culinary concept,Rivea, which will take place later this month, on 17 April. Rivea, named after the historic word for Riviera, replaces the current restaurant, Spoon, another Ducasse creation and will showcases chef’s trademark, innovative Mediterranean cuisine, with French and Italian influences. Ducasse’s reputation as one of the most celebrated chefs in the world means that theRivearestaurant is set to be a much-celebrated culinary concept, in the heart of an exceptionally glamorous location.
