Yesterday on 19 August 2013, Helena Rizzo was named Veuve Clicquot Latin America’s Best Female Chef 2013, part of the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards new list for Latin America.
Helena Rizzo oversees the critically acclaimed São Paulo restaurant Mani with her husband Daniel Redondo in the city’s Jardim Paulistano suburb. Mani opened in 2004 and marries Brazilian ingredients – such as maniocas, a Brazilian root vegetable similar to cassava which the restaurant is named after – and culinary philosophies with modern techniques and international influences.
Unusually, husband and wife Daniel and Helena work side-by-side in the kitchen at Mani. They met at restaurant EL Celler de Can Roca in Girona which is currently rated as number one on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
Earlier this year, chef Nadia Santini, head chef of Dal Pescatore in Mantova, Italy – whom FOUR is proud to call one of their very own chefs – was named Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef. The World’s 50 Best’s new list shines the spotlight on the best restaurants in Latin America and has given Helena the opportunity to be named the best female chef in Latin America, placing her alongside Nadia, as well as Elena Arzak, renowned San Sebastian institution Arzak and Anne-Sophie Pic of Maison Pic in Valence, France – both of whom have been previous winners of the World’s Best Female Chef award.
The World’s 50 Best awards for Latin America’s 50 Best Restuarants will be announced on 4thSeptember 2013 in Lima, Peru, and will see 50 of Latin America’s best restaurants awarded for their excellence along with individual awards such as Veuve Clicquot’s Latin America’s Best Female Chef.
