Fabio Trabocchi’s new restaurant, Casa Luca, is inspired by the chef’s Italian upbringing and the culinary lessons learnt from his father.

Fabio Trabocchi’s restaurant Casa Luca opens today in Washington DC. The venture is very much a family affair, with the restaurant named after his nine year old son.

Branding itself as a ‘casual and convivial osteria’, Casa Luca has a more laid back atmosphere than its sister restaurant Fiola. The menu reflects the Italian upbringing of chef Trabocchi with a focus on dishes learnt from his late father and culinary mentor. Trabocchi’s son, Luca, apprentices at the restaurant on a Saturday and the photographs covering the cracked-finished walls reinforce the family focus.

Affordable and authentic is the vision, realised in the sharing platters, the smoked potato gnocchi, and the reasonably priced Italian wine.

Trabocchi began his career at sixteen, working for three Michelin star winner, Gualtiero Marchesi. In 1999, he was awarded the Carlton Award for London’s Best Young Chef for his work at Floriana. His first restaurant, Fiola, opened in Washington in 2011.As well as Casa Luca, Trabocchi is seeking to open Fiola Mare in Washington Harbour before the end of the year.
