2013 is proving to be a very exciting year for chef Wylie Dufresne. Whilst he’s celebrating the 10thbirthday of his first restaurant, wd~50, on 9thApril, he will also be rejoicing at the opening of his new restaurant,Alder, in New York’s East Village on March 28.
Alder, we’re told, is the Lower East Side’s new neighbourhood spot. Offering modern American pub food, well-crafted cocktails, and an intriguing wine list, the 56-seat restaurant will be open for dinner Wednesday through to Sunday, 6pm to 11pm. In the spirit of every great pub, anything goes at Alder – a little drinking with a lot of eating, a lot of drinking with a little eating or something in between. And to compliment the restaurants relaxed vibe, Alder will operate on a walk-in basis, with no reservations being offered.
Michelin star Chef Wylie Dufresne is set to be applying innovative techniques in the kitchen at Alder, as he does at wd~50, taking familiar dishes and flavour combinations and presenting them in his own inimitable tongue-in-cheek style, celebrating New York City’s diverse food culture in the process. His mission at Alder, he tells FOUR, is simple: serve delicious, affordable food that guests will want to return to week after week. In keeping with this philosophy, no dish will exceed $25. Enjoy!
