Global Traveler has awarded Alitalia “Best Airline Cuisine”, having conducted extensive research on the exceptional achievements of the travel and tourism industry. Over 28,000 frequent flyers participated in “2013 GT Tested Reader Survey Awards”, organized by Global Traveler, leading to Alitalia’s accolade.
With the aim of reflecting Italy’s culinary excellence, Alitalia enhanced its menus, upgraded onboard service and began offering accessories designed by the country’s most renowned brands.
The menus in Magnifica Business Class, changing every three months and on outbound and inbound flights, are a collaboration with Italian Michelin Star veteran, Gualtiero Marchesi and his International School of Italian Cuisine, ALMA. Complementing their excellent dishes, Alitalia offer a selection of wines that have been chosen with the Italian Sommelier Association. Both take inspiration from the nation’s regional culinary traditions and reflect flavours and ingredients that preside in the country’s cuisine.
At the moment, Magnifica Business Class passengers traveling from Italy enjoy a steamed Reinette Apples appetizer, accompanied by crunchy radishes in an apple mustard and cervia salt flavoured honey sauce. To follow, there is a rice timbale with PDO Taleggio cheese and purple potatoes, followed by a lamb stew enhanced with thyme, bay leaves and yoghurt in a Pioppini mushroom sauce. Dessert is a Duchess di Parma cake, alongside a selection of seasonal fruits and espresso.
