It’s 1 October and for most of our readers north of the equator this means one thing: autumn is coming. So, if like us the thought of colder days and longer evenings has given you a bout of the winter blues, then transport yourself for just a moment to the warmer climes of Barbados – the location of Michel Roux Jr’s latest culinary adventure.

From 9 to 18 January 2014, Michel, who has run two Michelin starred restaurant Le Gavroche since 1991, will be cooking a series of lunches and dinners as well as doing cookery demonstrations and book signings at Cobblers Cove, Barbados, a 5 star Relais Chateaux hotel which boasts a grandiose beachfront location.

At the helm of Cobblers Cove’s kitchens is executive chef Michael Harrison who was born and raised on the island before training under Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche.

While visiting his protégé, Michel Roux Jr will go to the vegetable and fish market and chef Michael’s favourite street food stalls, create menus using local seasonal items such as eddoes, yams, breadfruit, mangos, sweet potatoes, mahi mahi, snapper, kingfish and lobster.

Fancy getting in on the action?

Cobblers Cove is the only member of Relais and Chateaux in Barbados and has recently introduced some gourmet experiences for its guests, which include visits to the markets, local street food stalls, fishing with the hotel’s fisherman Barker and learning to cook your catch the Bajan way.

Michel Roux Jr will cook lunch on 9, 15, 16, 17 January and a gala dinner on Saturday 11 January.  On Sunday 12 January, Michel and Michael will collaborate to create a lunch menu for guests and again on Saturday 18 January for a gala dinner, both of which are open to non-guests.

British Airways offer seven nights at Cobblers Cove in Barbados from £2,449 per person, based on two adults sharing in January. The price includes return flights from Gatwick and accommodation with breakfast.
