Joshua Skenes is the executive chef and co-owner of two Michelin star Saison in San Francisco’s Mission District. His fruitful present is the result of his dedicated culinary education which began in The French Culinary Institute in New York, directly after graduating from high school in Jacksonville, Florida.
While in school, Joshua balanced his course with a full-time position in the kitchen of chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. After he graduated in 2001, Joshua moved to Boston to open Troquet and to work under Anthony Ambrose at Ambrosia. Two years later, he moved to San Francisco to work as the executive chef at acclaimed restaurant Chez TJ in Mountain View.
In 2005 Joshua was recruited by chef Michael Mina to open Stonehill Tavern at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach.
After leaving Stonehill Tavern in 2006, Joshua returned to San Francisco, working in various restaurants and cultivating his own concept, Saison. What started as a pop-up is now a two Michelin starred restaurant, which has gone on to earn Joshua a number of well regarded accolades, including: the San Francisco Chronicle’s Rising Star Chef award in 2010; Food & Wine’s Best New Chef of 2011 and San Francisco Magazine’s Best Chef 2011.
