Chef Joachim Koerper started his culinary career working as an apprentice in Hotel Kalken, Konstanz, Germany, and Hotel Kempinski,Berlin, Germany. Throughout his career he has been engaged with some of the finest luxury hotels throughout Europe, cooking for notable figures from the world of politics and the arts as well as celebrities such as Princess Caroline of Monaco, famous documentary filmmaker & photographer, Gunter Sachs, and actor, Maximilian Schell.
Chef Koerper gained his inspirations from his travels to Greece, Sardinia, Southern Spain and France. The diverse flavours, colours, and aromas of Mediterranean cuisine is what constitutes Chef Koeper culinary style, so much so, that he is recognised as one of the finest masters of Mediterranean cuisine.
Disciplined yet imaginative, Chef Koerper prides himself on using natural, fresh & seasonal products.
His restaurant El Girasol, was awarded a Michelin star after only nine months, and three years later, a second. The Gastronomic Guide ‘Gourmetour 2002’, considered his restaurant El Girasol, The Best Restaurant of the Year, and the The Best Bodega of the Year, with a rating of 9.25 out of 10. It was also accorded the recognition of having the best table and best attention to client service in 2004.
Restaurant El Arambol attached to the Hotel La Posada Real de la Casa del Abad de Ampudia (Palencia) has been under the supervision of Chef Koerper since 2002, and was awarded a Michelin star in 2005, which it held until 2008. The Restaurant Quinta das Lágrimas in Coimbre, Portugal and his Restaurante Eleven in the centre of Lisbon, have also been awarded a Michelin star, making this a total of 5 Michelin stars to date.
Chef Koerper is also currently working as Chief Advisor of the estate’s restaurant, with the winery Heredade da Malhadinha in Alentejo.
