Back in October, Mario Batali headed to Rome for a TV shoot. While there he visited a few of his favourite local restaurants, including the informal trattorie such as Roscioli and Cesare al Casaletto. It was, however, a trip to Heinz Beck's La Pergola, the only three Michelin star restaurant in the Eternal City, which turned out to be Mario's best meal of the trip. 

"I am generally averse to Michelin three-star dining experiences. There’s a stuffiness I’ve actively resisted for years. But La Pergola is different. The wood-paneled dining room, literally at the highest point in the Italian capital, harmonizes with the remarkable plates imagined by chef Beck," says Batali.
